88 cabby help

Jun 21, 2004 3 Replies

Group, I humbly seek your wisdom. I have recently purchased a 88 cabriolet. Second VW, but I just drove the wheels off the of 82 rabbit diesel, wasn't very interested in restoration.

Q1. This one's a three speed auto. How hard is it to swap for a manual tranny, and which tranny's, i.e. out of what cars will fit. Any details or suggestions appreciated.

Q2. The stereo is toast, what will fit in the small covey and still look nice?

TIA.

Still have the diesel parts..............Uh guess where I am going with this! lol AFAIK Trans will have different gearing but should work.

later, dave Reminder........ Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you are a mile away from them, and you have their shoes. Frieda Norris

I called Crutchfield last year about a replacement radio/CD for my 86 Cabriolet. They said nothing will fit nicely, due to the depth in the dash. Since the radio and cassette still work, I'm standing pat.

My fiance has a 87 Cabby and a standard Panasonic CD H/U fits in there perfectly wrong. I think Crutchfield is wrong.
