Broken Glove Compartment Hinge/2000 Golf

I open my glove compartment about once a month, so it is not a big deal; but if there is an easy fix

the hinge on the right side broke about in the middle. I hate to think what a replacement would cost, but if there were some way to remove it woith out destroying, I might be able to stick some fiberglass on it.

Any suggest to resolve this would be appreciated.

easiest option is to try and find a second hand glove compartment and replace the whole glove compartment this 2000 golf is a mark 4 yeah? thought they would have fixed this fault as it breaks on all the mark 3's. Don't know how to replace the mark 4 glove box but should be some screws inside on the top and you probably have to take the facia underneath the glove box off to undo some bolts underneath the glove box to take it out as well. i bought a second hand glove box from a scrappy for $13.60 here in the UK.

How much weaker is the dollar going to get by the way? What do you reckon to £2/$1 by end of the year? :)

It was a mk iv problem too, mine broke (99.5 jetta) but it was under warranty. I heard someone say spraying a little silocone in the dampner makes it move a little easier and helps prevent the hinge from breaking, but I haven't tried that. Since replacing it I've been careful with it and it hasn't broken.

The dollar might make it that far, or more! I read yesterday that the Euro central bank might start to take action though..at least for the Euro. I don't know if that will have any effect on its value against the Pound though. Indirectly maybe?
