KN filter for 8V Digifant?

Id like to invest in a KN filter for my stock digifant 90 Golf 8V, any best choices? should I then do any mods to the Digifant to increase mixture? Can I?

Little or difference. Very little gain in power, maybe even a little loss, no gain in mileage. While there is some evidence of possible engine damage, I also believe that is also very small and unlikely. Check out:

I have a similar car ('91 Jetta 8V digi) and I found the K&N to help a

*little* to smooth out acceleration. Add this to the fact that they can be reused forever and it's a decent investment. However, seems the jury's still out as far as potential engine damage. If somebody ran the K&N hard for 300k+ on a new engine and then tore it down and could point specifically to damaged parts, I'd be convinced.

As for other power increases? I remember reading that for this particular engine, the stock exhaust manifold is a major restriction. Replacing this with a larger manifold is said to give 5 more hp, but replacing with headers can apparently yield 8-10 more hp. (don't forget the rest of the exhaust! A clogged cat can rob your power too).

I personally gave up on thinking about tweaking my car. I'm just going to get a GTI some day.

OK.. exaust, any suggestions on what year manifold would be a better flow? or a good aftermarket?

Don't waste your hard earned money on a Digifant motor. They are gutless when new and remain that way till they die. No amount of tuning will help. Save up for a 1.8t and enjoy......

Anything that had the 1.8 8V engine and a dual outlet manifold...such as the

105 HP Digifant engines, code PF. There was a dual on the '86 Jetta GLI too but I forget the code (either HT or RD...one was a single and one was a dual and I forget which was which) and it'll bolt up as well.

If you really want to make a change (other than the sound/noise) I suggest that you really need to look at the whole thing, not parts like intake or exhaust. etc. You need to decide what the final configuration is going to be, including new chips, intake (not just air cleaner) entire exhaust system, cams blower etc. They all work together and trying to piecemeal something together is a waste of your time and money. In addition any one or two parts is not going to make enough difference in anything other than noise (and I hate noisy cars) to notice.

AFAIK the stock dual manifold is a decent setup and there isn't much on that piece alone to be improved.
