Strange Stereo Problem (Monsoon)

Here is an odd case -- the battery on my '03 Golf was drained by thestereo. The dealer told me it was because fluid had leaked into the stereofrom the cupholder above it. Now VW won't honor the warranty claiming an"outside cause." Of course, the dealer is quoting me a ridiculous pricefor the stereo alone. I have most certainly not intentionally caused aleak and I have no idea why there has not been a seal installed to preventsuch things from happening in the first place. The dealer is also claimingthe stereo is completely damaged although it works without a problem (besidesdrainingthe battery when the engine is off). Any suggestions or moral support?Stan

George Bush Military computer monitor. And when it fills up with water and stops working... I can beat the crap out of it with the $1200 military hammer!

There's a bunch of stuff about VW's I don't like. One example is I had to replace the starter in a low miles V8 Touareg a few weeks ago. Sounds like a routine repair, don't it? Except the first step is to remove the engine and transmission-I'm not kidding! That's going to hurt when it's out of warranty and the poor owner has to pay 2 days of labor! I've learned over the 32 ears of VW's one must look at an "issue" from all perspectives. And yes putting cup holders above a radio is totally stupid!
