washer pump 96 passat

Aug 26, 2004 1 Replies

Hola drivers-

Having washer pump problems with both of my cars, but I'll start with the 96 Passat first. When I pull the washer lever on the column, I get no voltage across the contacts at the connector for the pump on the reservoir, and needless to add no fluid coming from the jets. The fuse is fine and the wipers work for the right interval after pulling the lever, though. Can the problem be caused by the relay? Or is this necessarily a broken wire somewhere between the relay panel and the pump? I'm looking at the wiring diagram and am still stumped.

Thanks for any help - Chris

You might need to test the contacts at the actual switch at the steering column. I have seen problems with the earlier VW's washer contacts, but not on the Passats yet. A little cleaning and adjusting and all is well again.
