would anyone know how to remove a tailgate protecter without doing damage? all thoughts are welcome

You mean a factory one like on the top and lower part of an Avalanche's tailgate or some aftermarket job? Year, make and model?

AFAIK there are no plastic push pins on these......simply held down with adhesive glue.
