sway bar bushings '01 elantra

this will probably sound like a silly question to some, but since I've never performed the service myself, I must ask

on my elantra, the sway bar bushings are squeaking, and I just want to know what the procedure is for lubing them.

thanks for any help!

simple enuf! I think it's the front sway bar that's squeaking, but while I'm working on the car, I may as well lube both sets. Since I do my own oil changes (synthetic, for what it's worth) not everything under the car is getting lubed (do those oil change places really lube anything down there anyway?).....while i'm under the car doing the sway bar bushings, what else would be a good idea to lube while i'm under there?

thanks for the help

No silly questions here about Hyundais. :-)

Which sway bar? Rear?

I am not really familiar with the 2001 Elantra but I replaced the rear sway bar on my 2002 EGT when l had it, and recently lubed the bushings on my Tib.

When the car is not moving the sway bar is not under load. This means that even if you drive the car up on ramps you can still work on the sway bar (and even remove it).

In your case you just want to remove the brackets holding the bushings in place on the car. Since the bushings are split you would be able to get them off the bar without detaching the bar from the end links. Lube as required and reinstall in the reverse sequence. Do not fully tighten the brackets until both are snugged down and you give the bar a bit of a jiggle to get everything back into its natural resting position. Finally torque the screws to the correct torque (see Webtech for torque) .
