Anyone want to buy a v8i ES LPG 7-seater Discovery?

Just a thought here. Hope you don't mind!

I'm just about to do a few jobs on my Disco before I sell it. But it just struck me that someone might be interested in buying it cheaply and doing the jobs themselves.

It's a 2000 V8i with a Landi dual-fuel LPG conversion (cost 2200 ukp) with external 75 litre tanks. It really is in very good condition. Metallic silver. With oversized 60/40 Cooper tyres (only 10% wear on these).

It has 3 video screens (2 in front headrests) for rear passengers and these are wired to 2 dvd players - all with remote controls and wireless headphones so that you can watch either DVD on any screen. However, I haven't used the DVD players for a few months and, on trying them out, I am just getting the screens to work - without a DVD signal. I suspect the DVD players have been attacked by moisture as they are fitted into a casing on the rear door. So, when the door opens they are susceptable to rain. I should have made covers for them but I never got around to it. Anyway, new plyers are less than £70 each. As the vehicle is an ES model, it has every option you can think of, including the full leather / walnut interior with Cruise control, AC, heated seats etc. You can see the specs on any ebay ad for the same type of vehicle. Here's one as an example ...

Mine is a manual transmission and, of course, is duel-fuel. It's done 106k miles. On a run, I normally get 200/220 miles out of a full tank of LPG. LPG is approx 51p per litre at the moment.

I have already bought the following parts (which will come with the car): Brake pads (full set), Spark plugs, Fuel filter, Air Filter, Oil Filter.

I WAS going to get the following work done:

1/ As you might know from reading this group, the ABS, TC and hill descent dash lights are on. It is probably a sensor but I won't know until I get it into a main dealer.

2/ LPG system service and tune-up. (Quoted £150 for that).

3/ Slight leak from sun-roof. (I've not bothered with it up to now because my galvanised roof-rack covers it anyway!) Roof-rack comes with the car, by the way.

4/ Occasionally, (approx once every 2 months) the alarm goes off for no reason. Seems to happen in colder, windy weather.

5/ General tune-up. Only cos it's a bit stuttery when it's cold. Runs beautifully when warm.

MOT is due 10th May 2008 and I know that the ABS etc problem will cause it to fail.

Now, I _was_ going to get all the above work done, then get a new MOT (just because I can!), and then stick it on ebay/autotrader for a reserve of around £7,500.

I reckon it will cost me (as a non-mechanic novice) approx 1,000 UKP to get the work done in order to sell.

Anyone fancy a quick, cheap deal for 6000 quid?

By the way, I can't prove it, but I should say that it had a virtually new engine approx 2 years ago. this was before I bought it and I can't provide a receipt because the previous owner had 'a mate who worked for a LR dealer'. But, I believed him, anyway.. Apparantly, a small crack was discovered in the original engine block. So, a brand new block was bought and the entire top-end and bottom-end was rebuilt. Including rings, all bearings etc. It had just been run-in when I bought it in Oct '06.

I reckon you'll be lucky to get £5k, spend the money & get it sorted.

Accompanied by the sound of a chisel on slate Nige, managed to produce the following words of wisdom

I've just bought a 99"V" Range Rover 4.6 HSE with 45k miles for £4200.

Aye, they're never worth as much as you think. At least, mine never are.

Ditto. you're absolutely correct of course!

It's just that I'm so fed-up with having flu and not having any energy to get the stuff done, - that I was looking for an easy option! I do know that LPG discos are often like gold-dust. Especially one with such a high spec. However, I'm much better bringing it up to scratch myself and sticking it up for sale. You're right nige, - as always ;-)

I'll fit the bits I've got, and then drop the car into the main dealer next week.

cheers for now...

H.

Honestly, dont goit to the dealer, it will cost a fortune, find a local specialist that knows what he's doing. I bet the dealer wont touch it as it has LPG, the fuckpigs won't rounde here.

Yebbut. It has to be plugged-in to find out the cause, and then reset the ABS/TC/Hill Descend warning light problem.

That bit ain't related to the LPG system anyway.

Howie.

You can't buy a diagnostics gun? Try a search on ebay. The diagnostics tend to use a common standard and guns are cheap enough, circa £25.

Sadly not, the diagnostics onboard Land rovers before 2002 are not OBD2 compliant due in part to our german friends so the kit to read and reset is a wee bit more expensive. You can get diags that work with some of the functions but if you aint keeping the motor a bit too costly.
