Just a thought here. Hope you don't mind!
I'm just about to do a few jobs on my Disco before I sell it. But it just struck me that someone might be interested in buying it cheaply and doing the jobs themselves.
It's a 2000 V8i with a Landi dual-fuel LPG conversion (cost 2200 ukp) with external 75 litre tanks. It really is in very good condition. Metallic silver. With oversized 60/40 Cooper tyres (only 10% wear on these).
It has 3 video screens (2 in front headrests) for rear passengers and these are wired to 2 dvd players - all with remote controls and wireless headphones so that you can watch either DVD on any screen. However, I haven't used the DVD players for a few months and, on trying them out, I am just getting the screens to work - without a DVD signal. I suspect the DVD players have been attacked by moisture as they are fitted into a casing on the rear door. So, when the door opens they are susceptable to rain. I should have made covers for them but I never got around to it. Anyway, new plyers are less than £70 each. As the vehicle is an ES model, it has every option you can think of, including the full leather / walnut interior with Cruise control, AC, heated seats etc. You can see the specs on any ebay ad for the same type of vehicle. Here's one as an example ...
I have already bought the following parts (which will come with the car): Brake pads (full set), Spark plugs, Fuel filter, Air Filter, Oil Filter.
I WAS going to get the following work done:
1/ As you might know from reading this group, the ABS, TC and hill descent dash lights are on. It is probably a sensor but I won't know until I get it into a main dealer.2/ LPG system service and tune-up. (Quoted £150 for that).
3/ Slight leak from sun-roof. (I've not bothered with it up to now because my galvanised roof-rack covers it anyway!) Roof-rack comes with the car, by the way.4/ Occasionally, (approx once every 2 months) the alarm goes off for no reason. Seems to happen in colder, windy weather.
5/ General tune-up. Only cos it's a bit stuttery when it's cold. Runs beautifully when warm.MOT is due 10th May 2008 and I know that the ABS etc problem will cause it to fail.
Now, I _was_ going to get all the above work done, then get a new MOT (just because I can!), and then stick it on ebay/autotrader for a reserve of around £7,500.
I reckon it will cost me (as a non-mechanic novice) approx 1,000 UKP to get the work done in order to sell.
Anyone fancy a quick, cheap deal for 6000 quid?
By the way, I can't prove it, but I should say that it had a virtually new engine approx 2 years ago. this was before I bought it and I can't provide a receipt because the previous owner had 'a mate who worked for a LR dealer'. But, I believed him, anyway.. Apparantly, a small crack was discovered in the original engine block. So, a brand new block was bought and the entire top-end and bottom-end was rebuilt. Including rings, all bearings etc. It had just been run-in when I bought it in Oct '06.
