I read this bit too late and redeveloped a hankering for a 2CV :-)

And I keep looking at No.6 top of page two, wonder if Nige has seen it yet? What I was actually looking for was a decent sized sign of "Bubbles" the Pears soap ad and the old one for Pratts Motor Oil, the one that says "Is your car filled with Pratts". Actually that would be good on a spare wheel cover. :-) They do lots more steel signs if you search the site.

You too? I'm serious. Excellent cars.

I'm serious too, but have you checked what prices they're going for? Wish I'd grabbed half a dozen not so many years ago when they were going for 25 quid a throw :-(

Still some around on ebay, reasonable prices, one lady owner type of thing :-)

fantastic little thing, but given truly free choice I'd have an SM (that free choice includes enough money and facilities to fettle it)

failing that, a DS.

I once had a BX ....

In fact it was a brilliant towcar, a most excellent engine (for 1.7 diesel values of most excellent) and was actually bloody reliable, once we found a man who 'loved' Citroens ... ;)

Styling left a little to be desired thobut.

I had a BX17RD - n/a diesel. Quick enough to keep up, never failed to give less than 50mpg no matter what, and - amazingly - completely rust-free. I quite liked the styling, actually. Sharp but non-fussy. It failed the MoT on suspension pipes and I paid 800 notes to get another year out of a £900 car. I liked it that much.

To return to the topic, I had a 2CV6 Club (Y suffix) and a Dyane (T suffix) and they were both utterly brilliant cars, and only got rid of when kids came along and a "proper" car was required. I did 4000 miles round Europe in the 2CV. It's only real fault was the driver's door catch, which ripped the belt loops off your trousers on a weekly basis. I'd have one tomorrow as a fun car - in fact, if one comes along at a non-silly price, I'll have it.

2CV's seem like the closest you can get to a series landy but still be a car. Friend had one. I remember going shopping it in once and the doors and boot kept popping open on speedbumps. Thats just like a series (how many of us have had bungee cord powered door latches at some point?). It also makes funny noises and they are expected, and you need to explain to people what the knobs do and how the gearbox works.

There is a citroen/2CV specialist just down the road they do look fun!

Surely the one it has to be is a Traction Avant (or Light 15.)

a perfect example in red trundling around here on occasion.

I had a BX17 and a BX19 - by judicious tweaking of the 19, you could get it to shift pretty well...

nice cars. The suspension pipes, oddly, are a DIY proposition: you need to get cunifer ones made, then you can bend 'em to shape as you go - steel ones are a complete bastard to fit.

Jack the car up about 4ft on one side and you can sit undeneath the edge where the pipes run.

nah. SM is the ultimate citroen to me. 6 headlamps! The TA is a nice thing and groundbreaking in its day, but not as much as the DS was. The SM is sort of an uber-DS.

I like it!

Is a 2CV roof box/observation post on the cards for grumble? :)
