V8 exhausts

I'm after some kind of performance exhaust for my 110 with a 3.5 V8 in it. Probably want a stainless one. What I -don't- want, is something noisy. If I went, for example, for a Rimmer stainless performance system (inc manifolds - the whole thing from heads to tailpipe), what sort of noise increase over the standard manifolds/system can I expect? If the answer is "quite a lot", does anyone have any recommendations of a performance exhaust that doesn't make a racket?

Had a Rimmer full sports sytem on my 90 V8 - wasn't any noisier than std system, it was just the quality of the noise that increased.

And if anyone finds one that makes a f***ing enormous racket, could they let ME know instead? I'm putting off getting a sports system as I am afraid the noise increase won't be worth the money.

I fitted a Rimmer stainless exhaust and manifold to my 110 V8. It wasn't the easiest job cos the clearances are quite tight - in fact I ended up having to bend the clutch slave cylinder rigid pipe out of the way. Not much difference in noise levels inside, but it sounds magnificent outside! Not 100% impressed with the quality of the steel - I have a stainless steel exhaust on my A-H Sprite that looks almost new, whereas the Rimmer one on the 110, although not actually corroded, has lost its shine and is now brown. Of course the Sprite hasn't been used for towing boats off a beach..........!

Saw it off at the manifold. When mine blew off at that point it sounded absolutely fantastic!

brace of cherry bombs, I reckon, 1 out each side. or possibly twin stacks, one from each wing :-) That was my plan for the 110, 'cept it already had most of an exhaust, half of which was nearly new, and it turned out that Range Rover down pipes and Y pipe would connect to the standard 110 centre/rear section.

'tis a fact that when I started the V8 before fitting it in the vehicle the first time, with just manifolds and about 6" of pipe, it *did* sound nice. f***ing loud, but nice.

Turn your volume to max. Plug in the biggest f***ing subwoofer you can find, and go to

Then phone them up and ask them to make your Rangie sound like that. :-)

Unfortunately, I think for the full effect you need the 5.2L engine as well as the sports exhaust they sell. I actually have their exhaust system and at least one 4.6 owner walked away going "want one!" to his SWMBO. Whether it's enough for your taste is another thing entirely.

i had that problem happen to a 2.25 petrol, exhaust pipe fell off about a metre from the engine. that little 4 cyl sounded very nice, much like a rally car, so i can only imagine what a 3.5 v8 sounds like!

i've got a Rimmer Bros. stainless 'Sports' system (incl. tubular manifolds) on my RR.

So far, I can't fault it.

The only downside was that it came with a silly chromed tailpipe that bent the first time I went off road with it. It got badly bent, and was straightened with a bit of wood and when I got home the hacksaw came out and solved the problem... After that, it has been great - the centre box has taken some right stick off road and is still in one piece.

It also sounds brilliant when you wind the motor upto around 4000 rpm! Hmmm, lovely!

All I need now is the 5.2L MaxPower engine to go with it! Actually, ISTR that the 4.8 was a good compromise between loads of power and not costing the earth. Perhaps, if I finish patio building, SWMBO will let me have one. After all, me building the patio has saved us two grand, which will nearly pay for a new engine!

Actually, two semi-circular and three circular patios, interlinked, on different levels. We were told to expect about two grand in labour if we paid someone to do it. 5 weekends in, and I'm laying the penultimate circle, which I will finish next Saturday, then I can start on the final circle. So far, something like 9 tonnes of material has been shifted by wheel barrow from the front of the house because the only access to the back garden is a 2'6" pathway between us and next door. The consolation is that I'pve had more exercise this year than in the last three put together!
