There's diesel weeping from the top of the diesel pump in the BX, which is dripping slowly down the front of the engine and perishing the coolant hoses that attach to the oil filter mount.
What's the best, and the cheapest way to fix it? Repair in-situ, or reconditioned, or exchanged?
I'd go to a scrap yard and get a pump , remove the pump and the alloy bracket it fits to all as one after removing the pulley ( some have self extractor like a villiers flywheel) steve the grease
The same here, I'll carry on driving my 1990 non-turbo Astra diesel estate (which drips fuel from between the main body and the end block where the injector pipes are connected) until it gets too bad.
Yesterday I took it to a diesel specialist.. 'Well mate it'll be around 270 quid to replace the gasket and then it 'should' be OK, but if not then were looking at around £370 plus Vat to re-calibrate everything!... end of story, especially when I look at much younger turbo versions that I can buy for between £600 and £900.
Everyone denies the connection, but I had absolutely no problems until my first tank-full of 'Ultra low-sulphur diesel'.
I still haven't found exactly where mine leaks from. It only does it when the engine is stone cold. As I peer into the depths of the plumbing around the pump it suddenly stops when its warming up. Bloody frustrating, which is why I now ignore it.
ISTR Its the seal where the throttle lever goes into the top of the pump that leaks. Its not a major job to get it replaced, I always found Universal Electro Diesel Services at Carterton to be quite helpful.
