Rearend Fluid change.. Help

Ok i have a 95 nissan pk 4cyl 5spd.

I have changed the transmission fluid, oil change and greased all the fittings. Im going to change the rearend fluid. any recommendation on what fluid to buy?

As far as i know the fluid has never been changed. Im driving from dallas,tx to durango colorado. 1000 + miles.

Should i change the rearend fluid or leave alone? No visable signs of leaking. Looks factory sealed..

Excellent question! There is only one Nissan recommended and approved lubricant (per their TSB) for the rears in your truck (and the Pathfinders of that same year). Pennzoil multi-purpose 4096. However this formula has been replaced by Pennzoil with a new fluid:

Pennzoil Gearplus SAE 80W-90 GL-5 Gear Lubricant (it must have ALL of this information on the label or it is the wrong bottle)

It is for BOTH LSD (limited slip) and conventional rear axle units, so no more trying to figure if yours is the limited slip version or not. They both use this fluid.

Definitely change it out. When I last bought a decent stockpile of this fluid (since I have 4wd), I bought it at Wal-Mart and I think it might have been just short of $3 a quart. But that was `pre-Bush' so I've no idea what the price is now. Still working out of that case. :-)
