Mallory Dizzy

I got one NIB. Cheap. Cool. Now, is there any special trick to installing it on a T1? Got the Pertronix in an 09 right now.

hello john....first, I HATE the word "dizzy" so stop it.... second, what model Mallory distributor did you get? centrifugal only or centrifugal/vacuum? nothing hard or different about installing the mallory, but remember the mallory is fully adjustable and may need to be adjusted to your engine...

I can dig that, Chris. I had a girlfriend in England named Dizzy. Made me that way, too. Maybe I'll call it a Brandy. No. She gave me a headache.

Distributor is good.

It is the centrifugal and "electronic ignition system" model. Silly me, I don't need to mess with the pertronix at all. And I found this:

So I need a ballast resistor. I don't recall any loom resistance wire in the system.

I was mainly concerned with T1 specific issues. Looking good so far.

Aw man, that's what I should have, eh? Anywho, I'll set it up and be careful with the timing.

Thanks, Man

well it will install and time like a standard centrifugal distributor.... you likely have a coil that has the ballast resistor installed already, or the pertronix wouldn't have lasted, as they require a ballast resistor also.... time the Mallory at max advance just like the old 009.... the Mallory also has the ability to adjust the overall advance to what you need and different springs are available to custom tailor the advance curve.... even out of the box, the Mallory will likely be better than the 009 you are replacing ....

PAGING SPEEDY JIM to tell John the neat-o little test to determine that his coil has the proper resistance.

Best gift was to be able to sleep a lot. Whee! How exciting life is :D

Second best was a radio controlled bug, and Ghost Rider extended cut DVD.

Mine were step-children even though I raised them from ground zero. They are now thirty and 41 years-old. Here's to Britton and Sean. Peace.

How very cool, Chris, and best to your Bride!

i had a step father... a step father can be better than a "father" because he chose to be, not because he "had" to... Brad Paisley had a song about that!!

BTW my son LOVES working on "his" bug and "his" "little ghia"....

When I think of Mallory I am reminded of the 30ish daughter of Chief of Staff Leo McGarry on The West Wing, whose name was Mallory. Also the name of the character played by Justine Bateman on Family Ties.

Also the name of the character played by Justine Bateman on Family Ties. According to Justine's IMDb biography "Her role as ditzy Mallory Keaton won Justine two Emmy nominations for supporting actress." The VW connection is that "ditzy" is close to "dizzy".
