Pedal Q!

Well, the deal for the 71' that i was going for fell through, but my dads friend had a 57' Oval for sale for $1200 and it only had a a chunk of bondo in the front left fender, i bought it woo! question is, is there any way to space the pedals out maybe a inch or two? i seem to keep getting my foot caught on the break when hitting the gas....

Wow, and I though I had big feet! The only thing I can imagine would be to unmount the pedal cluster and do some crafty welding adding some extensions to separate the pedals. Maybe there are some kits available, if so I would love to know about them (big footed here too).

I wear size 12 as well. You will get used to it. Just keep your feet to the other side of the pedal. Also, i have the roller wheel pedal for accel. Works great, love it. ~Peace~Justin

Hahaha...I had to drive my dad's 71 squareback with my right foot shoeless! I wear a size 13. My 73 Beetle is very drivable...except that I learned to raise my foot so that the lever for the brake pedal goes past the narrow part of my foot...so the ball of my foot is high up on the gas pedal. Otherwise, my foot gets stuck too. Maybe you can make/modify a special narrow "driving shoe" for the right foot...or go shoeless! Except I think that's illegal, isn't it? Oh well. No cop ever noticed my big foot...

Hey. The pedals being close area actually a good thing. I think its a porsche influence. Having the pedals closer or for a racing set up. It's good to have them close if you want to transition from stoping, to accel. etc. I wear size 12 as well, and have no prob

i believe that all it takes is time for people to adapt or "learn" to drive a vw....when i first began driving vw's years ago, i had trouble due to the fact that my "normal" footware were steeltoed boots...took some time, but after that no problem at all.... so to everyone with big hooves, never fear, you will get used to it.....LOL

Good point, Chris. At size 11, I don't have really big feet but I do have wide feet. I had trouble at first too but after many years I have no problem, even when wearing work boots. You just get used to it pretty quickly. Here's a similar thread from Shoptalk:

Hi.If it has a roller gas pedal, try a bug with a "normal " one and see it maybe thats the problem. If so, a Bigfoot Surfer type pedal might help. Not very stock, but cool and it solved my problems with the roller and I'm not a size 12.It's a tight fit down there.Or get a bus,HA HA.Sounds like you got a sweet deal.Enjoy.Steve

Maybe Porsche had the "VW Influence" since it was designed first? ;-)
