Worth of Bug

How much do you guys think a 65 Sunroof bug would be worth?

Some particulars are:

- Original paint with very little rust, mostly rusty paint chips and one confined perforated fender lip.

- Supposedly original (probably has been rebuilt) 1200 motor and while the engine bay was a little oily it ran smooth. I reconnected his oil breather hose back up to his air filter for him too ;^)

- Has what looks to be the original bumpers with minor rust which could probably be cleaned up.

- Sunroof mechanism works flawlessly.

- Has a few minor dings in the fenders which is to be expected.

- I didn't take a test drive (I couldn't trust myself not to buy it!) so I can't comment on the ride quality, he did drive it to work to show me though and says it gets great gas milage.

- Interior basically needs to be redone, it's usable but looks rough.

Here's the kicker..... getting married in May and it should prove hard on the old saving account. If you guys think it's worth what the guy is asking for it or more I might just pick it up and fib to the old lady on how much I spent on it. Also I already have a 75 Baja almost complete and a 70 Bus I've been slowly working on the body a couple of years so needless to say she's "put up" with my VW's over the years but one more might make her withhold certain plearsure I've grown accustomed to over the years.

TIA for your comments/suggestions!

Ya, lie to the woman you plan to spend the rest of your life with and go ahead, empty the savings account. What could happen? giggle

Well I wouldn't be emptying by any means but it would put a noticable dent! She doesn't even know how much I really have in there..... just a vague idea.

Call me silly. Correct me if i am wrong. I didn't know there was a 65 sunbug. I only knew of the 70's ones.

Mac that sounds like a very nice bug, what its worth depends on your location. A 65 sunroof like that would sell from $4500 to $9000 around here, and thats if you can find them that clean.

There were sunroofs (cloth ones) as far back as at least 1961. They didn't go metal until 1965. I don't have my VW book handy so I don't know how much further back they went.

Even further. I have a 1958 cloth folding sunroof. I think the metal sunroofs came available in 1964.

Fweem.
