'94 Cabriolet (90) ignition switch woes...

Cabrio's ignition has started getting stiffer to turn key.... doesn't want to spring back to the "Run" position from the "Start" position. Settles somewhat with a *little* spray of WD-40 ...

Anyone have any luck with a fix shy of replacing the lock cylinder?

Thanks from Nova Scotia,

Kevin

Hey Kevin,

It's most likley the plastic electric switch portion which mounts behind the ignition lock cylinder housing. They very often crack around the outside of the plastic switch housing causing the ignition switch to bind which in turn causes the key and lock cylinder to get stuck. I think the electrical portion (ignition switch) can be replaced without removing the lock cylinder or steering lock assm. Some models can be done by working up from under the dash once the underdash trim panel has been removed. Some require removal of the instrument cluster to gain access to rear portion of ignition lock.

Good Luck, Peter
