77 Suburban Ignition Key stuck in On Position

May 21, 2005 3 Replies

I have a 77 Suburban and I went to turn the ignition to the OFF position after driving it and it won't budge. It will only go to the ON and START positions and the key can't be removed. I tried a electronic cleaner and a silicone lubricant in the key slot, the key switch barrel, the turn signal opening and the tilt steering opening. No luck.

Some observations: Before this happened the shift lever would sometimes have a little hangup going from park to reverse. Also I noticed the parking brake lamp stayed on the last two times I drove, and the parking brake was not set.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is my only ride. Thank You, Bob

Try turning the steering wheel back and forth.

Sarge

Already tried that numerous times.

Have you went under it to make sure your tranny was all the way in park?Linkage being off can stop your key from coming out ....Also broken springs and bad tumblers in the key cylinder will do this... Im looking to more to something fubared in your key cylinder... S Cook
