turn signals not working...

Hi all,

I have an '97 Cheyenne 1500 of which today the turn signals stopped working. They worked earlier this morning, but this afternoon I notice I didn't have any. No left or right, front or rear. I have hazard lights (same bulb and fillament right?) but no turn signals. Anyone know what might be going on? Or, what to check for? I don't see any blown fuses...the hazards wouldn't work without the relay would they?...I'm stumped! Any help would be appreciated...

I may be mistaken but the power to you turnsignal switch for your turn signals is supplied buy your hazzard switch...Thus letting your hazards work and not your turnsignals...What you need to do is check for power to your turnsignal switch. Which is the power supply from your hazzards....If you have power then you more then likely have a bad switch...Being a 97 its very likely... Steve C

The hazards and the turn signals run off of different flasher units the hazard one is usually the two prong round one and the signal light is often times the three prong square ones. In the 89 model it is down on the firewall I am not sure where it is on yours though

On a '97 it's behind the ashtray.

Crappy, cheap hazard switch. Jiggle it and make sure it is not stuck in the on position. It should fix the problem.

Tada! I found out that I had a short in my trailer wiring, which blew the fuse that I couldn't find. I tried checking all the fuses under the hood (nothing). I was wondering why I couldn't find one particularly for the turn sigs. Then it happened...I saw the little door on the driver side of the dash down by my knees...well, what do you know! More fuses...and the one I was looking for. Well, all is well...and many, MANY thanks for all of your input.
