does anyone have a recommendation on any of the rebuild places like Rhino Engines or Rebuild.com? I haven't met a mechanic I trust yet in Tucson so I was thinking at least get the engine from a reputable place.

Jasper Engines appear to be a reputable rebuilder. You can buy re-manufactured 2.7s from them with all the latest mods that are supposed to prevent sludge related failures. You can check stock on-line.
