Yeah, but you jus can't beat a good 'Stang, guys, admit it. In fact I think you all should respond by agreeing that the Mustang is hands down the best most fastest car money can buy.

The SSR is a turd. It looks nice, gets alot of attention, has some neat features, and drives nice, but for almost 50,000 bucks I wouldn't even consider buying one. My 10 year old 150,000 mile F150 wears the SSR out over and over again. My truck is a lightning but its basically stock and runs a measly 14.85(consistent 14.9's). I haven't seen the SSR on a track yet but if I had to guess I would say high high 15's or maybe even low 16's but thats just a guess. Erik D. '94 white lightning

In all honesty, and as much as I hate to say it, I think I agree with you on this one. They are coming out with some pretty cool stuff like the 300C and the hemi wagon. I dunno about stronger, but definitely as strong as anyone elses lineup. I don't think I would buy one though, lol. Erik D. '94 white lightning

I dunno what they are rated at, but I know with my '94 I had no problems towing an open car trailer with a '92 mustang on it. I have also towed a bass boat with absolutely no problems, and had a shitload of stuff in the bed. I also know a guy who has a '99 that he always tows his mustang with. Its cool cause he tows his mid 11 mustang to the track then unhooks the truck and runs mid 12's with the truck. How many people have 12 second tow vehicles, lol?? Erik D. '94 white lightning

It does happen, the lightning outruns the mustang GT's on a steady basis. It even hangs in there with the F-bodies fairly well considering its a heavy ass truck. Erik D. '94 white lightning

I don't think Erik's too far off base. The SSR could have been one hell of a truck, but they wussed out. Dodge is stuffing Viper engines in their race truck, Ford's upping the ante some with the new Lightning that's due out. GM stuffed the same drivetrain that they're putting in everything that's RWD into the fat SSR.

Personally, I don't think it even looks good. In fact, it hurts the eyes to look at that billboard. But that's just me. Give it some balls... at least make it an fast turd.

Speaking of fast turds... a salesman tried to talk me into a Lancer Evo the other day. I don't care how fast it is, or what kind of go-fast aftermarket goodies come stock... I couldn't push myself into it every morning. But I at least respect it when I pull up next to one on the street.

I'm rambling now... time for bed.

At least the SSR looks cool. In the hands of Refinish King & My self, after mods, iot would whipe your truck off the road. Charles A bow-tire is better then a blue oval any day.

That's sad. Which "bow-tire" vs. which Blue Oval are you talking about? What does Chevy have to match the Lightning, the Mustang GT or Cobra, the Ford GT, the Thunderbird, or even the Crown Vic?

I feel compelled to speak, for whatever reason.

I'm having a problem with brand loyalty. I've owned mostly Mustangs, but one mid '80's F-body and a Cavalier... with Probe GT and a T-bird SC thrown in for kicks. One might think I'm brand loyal, but I'm far from it.

I don't see anything in GM's lineup that looks all that exciting to me right now. If I wanted performance, I wouldn't be buying the plush GTO. I don't like SUV's, so that takes away a large portion of it. I don't really want a truck (though some days they'd be nice), but even if I did, I'd take an F150 as a work truck, or the new Ram (very close second). I'd probably take the Toyota as a third. As for passenger cars... I'd say DC's my top choice. I'd take the SRT-4 over an SVT Focus, a Stratus (even base model) over the ZX-3 or whatever the Escort's replacement was, and the base Neon over the Cavalier/Sunfire models. The Mustang Mach1 would supplant the GTO all day long, and for the price, I could just get a Cobra and stomp all over it. As for luxury performance models, the Acura RSX-S and the Lincoln LS are leading the list. To be fair, I just test-drove a '99 WS-6 convertible the other day. I like those cars as well, but they've gone by the wayside, and were way too expensive. They also ratlle like mad. My friend has an '02 SS w/ T-tops, and the car creaked every time I hit a bump. Sure did go like hell though.

You're allowed to like GM's powerplants. You have had luck with them. I've been in NYC limos that have had well over 300k on the Ford 4.6 SOHC and they're still running like tops, and you know those cars don't sleep. Arguing the longevity point is meaningless unless you've owned the vehicles from day one and have maintained them the same. Any Ford or Chevy will explode under negligence and abuse, and everyone turns out a lemon every now and then.

So... you can be brand loyal and allow the bowtie to cover your eyes, or you can explore your options. Either way, I'm not going to complain. You don't have to buy any Fords. You don't have to buy any DC products. Your money. Brand loyal fools will downplay the problems with the Taurus transmission, and argue that the Fiero only was self-igniting when owners didn't know what they were doing. I'm hoping you're not a fool.

But the shot about someone who works on his own cars wasn't called for. The only thing I let other people do to my car is play with the exhaust (and weld the subframes when I get out to have them done). That's stuff best left to the people with the tools to do so. I turn my own wrenches, just like you. Bowtie or Blue Oval.

Man, I really have to stop writing when I'm dead tired and ready for bed....
