2003 F150: Odd steering noise

Sep 26, 2003 2 Replies

This just started about a month ago (got the truck back in May). Anytime I'm stopped and just turn the wheel a little bit back and forth, like within the "play" range, I hear a strange thump and feel it on the floorboard. It doesn't matter if the brakes are applied or if the truck is in park, it still happens. Before I take it to the dealership, does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

Thanks, John

John,

Ford had some problems with their intermediate steering shafts. Not sure if it's a problem on the 2003. If so they will replace it. It's the shaft between the steering gear and the column.

Thanks John, I'll keep that in mind when I take it in next week. Sure sounds like a possibility.
