289 to a C6 trany

Hi

I need help with some info for mateing up a 1965 289 with a 1979 ford C6 trans.

I put the flywheel and converter on the 289 that came off the 302 that was in the truck but now it seems its to tight of a fit. when i tightened everything down i cant turn the moter over with a pull bar. is there a space diff. in a 289 and a 302 at the back where it mates with the trany? Also do i need to take the bell houseing off of the C4 trany that came with the 289 and put it on the C6 or will it even fit?

Do you have the torque converter seated all the way into the pump housing?

1) you ned to research the flywheel / converter match-up

2) check pilot bore in 289 crank.....is it big enough for the pilot on the C-6 converter ?

3) how are you going to put a C4 bell on a C-6, since C-6 didn't have a removeable bell housing ?

I'm no expert and could be wrong, but, I thought the C4 didn't have a removable bell housing.

Hmmm, ok. When I rebuilt the engine in my '65 Mustang (289ci w/C4), I would have sworn the tranny was all aluminum with an integrated bell housing. I must be wrong.

Thanks.
