Can't get into gear.clutch problems in '98 Mazdaranger

Finally pulled the clutch and replaced the slave cylinder. Bled the system - twice. Cannot get pressure in the clutch - literally cannot get it into gear!

Ran out of ideas around 3:30 this morning, but .. any suggestions on what to try next?

I don't know if this is in any way applicable to your situation or not... had a similar problem w/ a Porsche 944. Went out one morning to run to store, clutch went to floor. Application of more brake fluid revealed a burst hose. Had garage at end of street replace hose and slave (because it's a PITA to get to.) He couldn't bleed it. I tried pressure bleeder, I couldn't bleed it either. Then Porsche mechanic friend told me the trick. Set up pressure bleeder on master cylinder, with car on stands. Pump clutch pedal quickly 20-30x. Immediately open bleeder on slave. repeat until good pedal. Apparently the quick pumping moves the air bubbles around enough that they lose their "stick" to the walls of the cylinders. (now why there isn't a bleeder on the master is still a mystery to me...)

That vaunted German Engineering.

Turns out the problem is an air bubble in the master clutch cylinder. Which, of course, has the connections at the bottom. Word to the wise, do not let all of the fluid drain out when changing the clutch fluid.

The solution that worked:

1.Make sure the reservoir is filled with brake fluid 2.lay on the floor with your flash light. 3.Take a snap ring plier and remove the snap ring from the master cylinder..around the rod that goes into the hole.. 4 ..and gently pull out the rod..the rod that the pedal is connected to. Lift the pedal slowly until the cup seal comes up out of the hole.
  1. When brake fluid starts leaking out on your carpet..gently slide it all back into the cylinder and then put the snap ring back in place. Then try it. Should be all better now.

But I will warn you, this is a job for a microcephalic midget contortionist. Arrgh!!!!!

Hates it we do.
