Dana 60 Bearing Self-Destruct

Before accepting that the axle is completely trashed, I'd check around for a second opinioin. Dealers tend to only do things by "the book" and don't know how other competent shops fix problems. (And sometimes the dealers know and just don't want to be bothered or are looking to increase their income.)

Your axle may actually be trashed, but I wouldn't accept the opinion of one dealer on something like this.

I agree with Matt get a second opinion.

I melted the wheel bearing on my 75 F-250 and it heated up so badly that it melted the axle in two. The dam wheel fell off when I jacked the truck up. To get the bearing off the spindle I had to burn it off. It wasn't pretty but I got it fixed and put I can't tell you how many more miles on the truck with that rear end, all without any problems.

Well thanks for telling me what I need Joe. There's always someone out there who knows better than me what I should be doing. You don't want to know what I think you should be doing.

My questions were:

1. How common rear bearing failure is on this unit, and
2. The best method to ship something this heavy to that location, and
3. Offering to buy one if anyone would like to sell one.

Nobody replied to questions 1 and 2.

Since I must buy the axle and arrange shipping myself, it seems I DO need to sit here asking someone to sell me one. I buy everything online if possible, time and fuel are expensive. Do you drive around all day visiting junk yards Joe?

Matt's right, second opinions are great, but I'm a thousand miles from the small town the truck broke down in. I had expected a dealer to have less problems buying parts, but they just folded and left it in my hands. My expectations of dealers has been adjusted.

So what's your point Joe? That I'm lazy, trying to buy parts online? I bought the truck online. It's a global economy, where I buy and sell stuff anywhere online, sitting at my computer. That I'm begging for free parts? I was offering to buy and ship what I need at whatever expense it took. Maybe you're one of those purists that hate any business in newsgroups. You're fighting a losing battle. Whatever your problem is, I'll figure out what I need, thanks.
