F-250 Noise on Shift

Jan 12, 2004 2 Replies

On 2001 F-250 4x4, when outside temps are relatively low (near freezing or below), there's a noise when shift between 2nd & 3rd (std. trans). Kinda sounds like pieces of rotating metal scraping one another. Appears to be from below the gear shift hump.

Dealer is not having a lot of success figuring out (and has witnessed the noise).

Is a very low mileage vehicle.

Any thoughts?

Defective synchros? You did say manual tranny, right? I had a similar problem in my '02 F250 with the auto, was a defective valve body causing overpressure on the torque converter clutch.

Try some Redline MTL fluid in your trans.
