Ford F250 w/302 CI idiot type question

This is going to come across as if I don't know a thing......but here goes.......honest, I've got about 35 years experience with various shade tree rebuilds and engine pulls and such, I didn't think I was was this dense....maybe I'm getting old........ Just bought this truck, had an oil leak, so I was never sure of the proper oil level.....sure, I looked at the dip stick, it was either a little low or a lot low, I just put a quart in to keep it from self destructing until I found the leak. Found it, Fixed it.....

Then I drain the pan (all the way), pull the oil filter and put a new MotorCraft F1A on.

Book says 6 quarts w/filter

put in 5 quarts (yes, I' sure)

start the truck,let the filter fill up, normal oil pressure, let it run about 30 seconds

shut it off and check the level expecting about a quart low

It shows about 3 quarts OVER........okay

Start it again, let it run a few minutes to make dang sure the filter is full.....still about 3 quarts high.....or am I high?.....

Do I have the wrong dip stick in this thing? Can't find a part number match with any searches. Number stamped on the dip stick is: E9TE-6750-CA M and it's got the good ol' Ford Logo all over it.

If you work at Express Lube and you change my oil for me and put in what you know belongs in there and find that it shows 3 quarts over when your'e done, what do you do?

Anybody out there got a 302 CI engine with a number on their dip stick?

About all I can tell you is the "E9" means it's from a 1989 model year.

As I recall my old 91 took 6 quarts (302-EFI)

Given that the truck is a 4x4, is it possible that the oil pan has two drain plugs (I checked, yup) and the oil pan will not completely drain if only the rear plug is pulled?......What possible good is the oil found in that front pan if the oil sump is in the rear pan?

Oh well, guess I'd better go out there and drain it again (both ends) and see what difference that makes.......

Question, is the dipstick in the front timing cover, or is it in the left side (driver) of the block, or in the left side of the pan.

If it's in the front timing cover, it's definitely the wrong dipstick, and the wrong front timing cover.

It goes into the block,just above the edge of the oil pan, just behind the drivers side (left) motor mount. The pan has the sump in the back, opposite of the car engine, not sure about the other truck engines.

The dip stick is 34.5 inches tip to tip, looks like about 31.5 inches of that goes into the tube when it's seated properly.

Ford dealer said he could ID it, even get me the right one, but he ain't at work yet.......
