I've seen on eBay that there is an after-market keyless entry keypad available for my 2001 Supercrew. It appears to be used as a 2nd or 3rd key fob. Are the O.E. keyless entry keypads operated in the same way (radio/frequency) or are they hard-wired? Would this aftermarket system be the better way to go or can an O.E. system be installed on a truck that does not have the keypad but does utilize the key fobs? Thanks for any information regarding this. I've locked my keys in my truck for the first time in 20 years and had to wait for my wife to rescue me.

My 2001 didn't come with a keypad, but I did have the keyfobs. I installed a keypad shortly after I got the truck. Took me about an hour to do and part of that was because I locked the keys in the truck while I was doing it. Very easy to do. You need to order the keypad and a wiring harness. The OEM keypad is hardwired.

I bought one of the keypads seen on eBay directly from a Ford dealer, cost $115 plus $5 shipping. It is a genuine Ford accessory and acts just like a smart keyfob and sticks on with double sided tape. Kit includes installation, programming, and placement instructions. It took me about 10 minutes to install the keypad and program it plus other three fobs (you can have up to four devices programmed). Works great. Only drawback, it's a little bulkier than the factory hardwired version. good luck
