Should I buy v10 or PSD in an excursion or S/D crew ??

Hello, I am looking to replace my old truck and would like more towing power. I have a 31 foot travel trailer that weighs about 6200 and an enclosed car trailer that weighs @ 7500 when loaded with car/generator/etc...My current truck tows great when on a flat or moderate incline but where I live I have to pull a few 4-8 mile long grades that are pretty steep and by the top I am down to @ 45 or 50 mph and the motor can't pull any harder, I really can't expect a small block to do more anyway. The truck alone weighs @ 6000 so the GCVW is getting up there.

Anyway, my real question: I am looking to buy a used (probably 2000) excursion or F250/350 crew and am not sure if I need the PSD or if the v10 will pull what I have. Here is a little more info. The truck will be a daily driver for a 15 mile commute each way to work and other around town trips in addition to vacations and weekends towing one of the trailers. I live in the northeast and have no where to plug the truck in at camp so I am a little concerned about the diesel starting. I also am not thrilled with the noise from the diesel but if I need it to pull the trailer I will deal with it.

So, does anyone have a v10 excursion or crew that pulls a comparable load and how does it do on the hills ??? Any help and insight as to the axle ratio which best suits my needs would be appreciated.

Thanks, if you happen to have one for sale please let me know that as well. Regards and thanks for any info you can offer.

Depends. I'd get the diesel, the noise isn't bad, the mileage is a lot better. The maintenance, especially if you get one that needs the coolant additive needs to be done religiously, or at least the additive level must be checked religiously. The diesel will start at zero unplugged. But it is all personal preference, I'm not convinced that a v10 is a good choice for serious work, gas engines never were really a good choice in the past, maybe it has changed.

I would be concerned about not having somewhere to plug in the diesel at night. The truck will start in cold weather w/out being plugged in, but it is much harder on it.

My 2000 F-250 4x4 Crew Cab V10 pulling a 5500 lbs. travel trailer and a

2300 lbs. bass boat get 10 mpg from OKC. to south Kansas and the same from OKC. to south east Okla. and gets 13 mpg empty . you can get a used V10 cheaper than a PSD the oil changes on the V10 are cheaper. you can start a V10 faster than the PSD the V10 is quieter than the PSD try taking one threw a fast food joint

just my 2cents Jeff
