when coming to a stop with the brake applied there is a knocking sound underneath the front end that seems to go faster the harder you press the brake, any ideas as to what this might be? I've been told possibly ball joints or cv joints, but i really dont think its the cv's because it doesnt knock when you accelerate and turn, only when braking to a stop. any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated

Mostly CV's go bad when the boot splits and lets in all kinds of dirt, you can easily look at your CV boots and see if any are split open with grease coming out.

Does this car have antilock brakes?

boots are not split however there is a little bit of an oily residue on the drivers side boot. i have had cv's go bad on many a car before and this doesn't seem to be a cv joint. yes the car has antilock brakes
