2007 Sante Fe Tranny Interlock

Perhaps this is a Hyundaitech Question:

My SF is 6 years old and was on the original battery. So after not being able to start it and charging the battery it started. A couple of days of sitting later and the same thing. Lights OK but starter NADA.

So I replaced the battery. But still no starter action. What I found was the transmission interlock switch malfunction. If I shifted to Neutral it would start fine. Shut it off, shift back into part and NO starter action again. Seems like the interlock switch, right?

So my questions are: is this an easily replaceable part? Is there any other item to check regarding this interlock prior to replacing it?

I'm pretty mechanically inclined so I'd prefer NOT to take it to the dealer. Besides its after 5 years so the warranty's up.

Thoughts, Ideas? Thank you.

Sounds like you're on the right track. I don't remember whether you can get right to it or you need to move the battery out of the way.

Replace the switch while the transmission is in neutral (with the parking brake on!). The hole in the switch should exactly line up with the lever that bolts on top.
