Axle swap

Hello. Could someone please tell me whether the axles from a 78 Cherokee would fit on my 95 YJ w/o any modifications? I am interested because they are the Dana 44 axles.

Thanks,

Greg

Width is different, springs on the 78 Cherokee are over the axle instead of under, and is uses a 6-lug wheel. In a word, no.

On the other hand, over the axle is good, as is 6-lug wheel. Some minor details remain to be addressed, such as drum versus disk brakes, hooking up the steering linkage, pinion yokes, etc. Width isn't "that much" different. If the axles are free or cheap, it is worth a shot. Otoh, if the YJ axles aren't wore out yet, why fix what ain't broke?

If you have the skills, whether these axles "fit" or not depends on your own tape measure survey, and how many modifications you are willing to put up with.
