Bestop Soft Upper Doors don't fit!

I posted a while back about this and didn't get a single response so I'm really just posting this as a heads up.

I purchased Bestop soft upper doors for my 98TJ about a month ago based on their claim "fits factory soft top". Well, they don't fit well at all. The front edge overlaps the windshield frame and the rear edge weather strip doesn't even make contact with the plastic door frame leaving a 1/4" gap for rain and wind to enter.

After contacting the manufacturer through the distributor I purchased them from, it was determined that I must have gotten "defective windows". Fine. Shipped them back and had a new pair delivered - same exact fit (or lack there of).

Then the manufacturer decides the windows must need "adjustment collars" and this will absolutely solve the problem. I don't see how as all they do is slip over the upper door pins to raise the upper door. My problem is the door sits too far forward, but I'm game, they are the experts (I also discovered through research these collars are only used on YJ's). Well, the collars don't even fit over the door pins!

I call to tell them this and they divuldge the fact that they have another customer with a 99TJ that is having the same problems. Still waiting for a call back (it's been a few days now) to find out what's next.

In all fairness they have been helpful, sent the collars for free and the distributor paid for the return shipping. But the bottom line is these things don't even come close to fitting. In the meantime I'm driving around with a taped up window for a month while my $270 sits in a box in my garage while I wait for more answers.

If anyone with a TJ has used the Bestop upper doors with a factory soft top I'd like to hear from them. If anyone is considering purchasing the same I recommend holding off for now.

I have the Bestop sailcloth soft top for my '99 soft top with factory half doors. I have no problem with the fit of the replacement skins over my existing frames. They fit just the same as the original skins did. I don't remember if you had full doors and had to get half doors and a frame for your new Bestop, or if you had the factory half door and frame?

I have factory half doors w/factory soft top.

I'm not sure I understand what you have...quote "sailcloth soft top over existing frames"? Do you mean soft upper door skins over existing upper door frames? If so that is a great help to me. If I could just get soft upper door skins I think that would solve my problem as my old frames fit perfectly. I've never seen TJ upper door skins in any of the catalogs. Where did you get them and how much were they? Thanks for your help.

When I got my soft top, it came with the entire top canvas, the two rear side windows (tinted), the back window (tinted), and both of the door skins. I had to cut the old (factory) skins off of the metal frames, and fit the new skins over the frames (they secure in place with velcro). They came as a complete set.

This is the kit that I got (but I didn't get it from Quadratec):

It notes specifically that door skins are included with the top.

Hope that helps!!

Thanks Tirya, that is a HUGE help! Armed with your information I contacted my distributor and Bestop and arranged a return/exchange for some soft upper door skins.

So once again for anyone that is interested - the Bestop soft upper doors WITH FRAMES don't fit! Save yourself $70 and buy the skins only!
