Cherrokee

Well I'm bored and want to buy a new toy. I was thinking of a Cherokee. I'm looking for something to tow my Yj to the dunes and trails. Not sure if the 4.0 will do it. I'll be using a car dollie not a trailer. Or i might just buy a tow bar for it. I know the Grands with the V8's will work but like the boxie look . Thanks all. 87YJ 33" 2.5 47 Willy's Stock 50 Willy's pick up stock.

Hi Mike - You don't drive your YJ to the trails? It's not road legal? What are some laws in your state? JF

I drive it to the trails . I'm the only one that does. But with caming gear and extra tools the old girl is a little small. And i hate sleeping on the cold ground. It's road legal . Just need to justify anouther Jeep in the drive way.

I thought I was the only one who 'drove what you got.' Even with the TJL, it's a bit cramped with gear for the weekend. One of these days I'll pony up the bucks and buy a small 8-10' trailer, put the gear in there while I sleep in the back of the Jeep. Plenty of room in the back of an Unlimited to stretch out for the night, and it beats the hell out freezing your ass off in a tent when it's 23 degrees out.

As Mike (the other one) can attest I spent a week in the back of mine last year after the flood...

I drive the heck out of it. There are some good trails i enjoy going on but hate the 2 1/2 hour drive to and from. And it's a long walk home if i break something that cant be fixed with twine and duck tape.

They went built to live out of. But i do remember seeing old pix's of an CJ5 with a camper that sat on the back. Kind of like the ones you slide into the back of a pick-up. But some tmes you got to do what you have too.

The 4.0 will probably do it, but it's going to need the factory tow package with at least 3.73 gears and a BIG trans cooler. I'd also be concerned about the stock brakes.
