CJ and YJ roll bar

Is the YJ roll bar welded to the tub? And do they both have the same mounting points? I'm wanting to put a CJ roll bar onto a YJ tub (this CJ I'm looking to buy has a YJ tub roll bar...can't stand the roll bar).

sorry i cant answer your question with authority (i have no experience with a yj and as soon as i tell you something itll be wrong) but strictly as an fyi, the yj/tj style sport bar is "safer" for rear passengers in making it possible for them to have shoulder belts. if rear passengers arent a factor, i also prefer the looks of the cj sport bar but its purely asthetic.

I believe the rollbar from a CJ-7 (1979 - 1986) is the same as the one of a YJ (1987 - 1991) with exception of the additional bar that YJs have from the rollbar to the windshield.

They aren't 'roll' bars, they are 'sport' bars and are bolted to the tub only.

'Roll' bars ar tied into the frame.

And yes, a CJ bar will bolt into a YJ.

And definitely not welded to the tub, although many a YJ has their Torx-head rollbar bolts so impossibly rusted removal can be the equivalent of a weld ;).

I think there were 2 YJ roll bars. First the CJ-7 type, then later the squared type with the shoulder restraints. The CJ-7 roll bar is bolted it on top of the fender well and at the floor.

Gee thanks for clearing that up...I would have never guessed ;-) Seriously,...thanks for the info! Allen

If it is a 92+ YJ roll bar with rear shoulder belts i will trade you for a CJ bar. I have either type, the one that is completely on the wheel wells and one that mounts to the floor and wheel well.
