Diagnostic codes in 99 TJ

Dec 16, 2004 9 Replies

I have the "check engine" light on in 99 TJ and I don't seem to be able to get the diagnostic code going through the on-off-on-off-on-off-on procedure. Is there a different way of getting it with this year car?

DC in all their brilliant thinking took that out of the '99 TJ, it does work on '97 & '98. You will have to take it down and get it read.

Nope, doesn't work in a 98 TJ - believe me, we've tried....

Hey on my 2000 TJ if you hold in the odometer reset button while turning the ignition to on it will run through the diagnostic mode and check all the gauges and the odometer will run through a series of numbers and then display the error codes if one is present. Hope this helps. Tom

That's weird - I can do the odometer reset button/hold and the diagnostic mode will run through, but never did it show the error codes on our 98TJ.. must have been a bastardized jeep... the codes showed up on the obdii scanner though. oh well.

Bill, Not a problem. You are welcome. Tom
