Engine problems

I have a '94 YJ with the 2.5l engine. the problem is the oil is getting mixed with fuel, and I have almost no acceleration anymore.



now I could pull the engine and rebuild it or replace the engine. unfortunately I'm going to have to go with the cheaper of the two.



which brings me to my question, would the 4.0L engine from the same year be able to match up to the AX5 trans? and if so what other issues would I be looking at?



now I know that this isn't the most detailed or knowledgeable post, but thanks for any info you guys might have.

A 4.0L would not bolt up to an AX5 transmission.. The AX5 tranny is too weak.. Also.. The transfercase on the 2.5L has 21 spines where the 4.0L has

23 splines..So if you did an engine and tranny swap, you would have to swap out the transfercase or change out the input shaft to a 23 spline.. I have a 2.5L hamster mobil also.. I have looked at every angle of doing a swap in the future.. The cheapest way would be to get the 2.5L rebuilt or find a good used 2.5L from a junkyard.. I hope this helps...

Rings, a compression test (or leakdown test) will tell you which cyl. Actually the plugs will probably tell you.

Only way to know if your engine can be rebuilt is to look. Longer you let it run like that the more likely it will grenade.

Loads. Starting with the AX5 is too weak and the spline count is not identical. Also the computer would have to be replaced, etc.... In the end you would have put more money into your 94 than an newer 4.0 equipped XJ would cost.
