Is there such a thing as a " Japanese Jeep" ?

And real off road vehicles don't have spark plugs.

That's correct.

Or pistons, belts, gears, glass, etc.

Way past time. A true MILITARY vehicle with composite armor and a military multifuel engine....accept no substitutes.

HumVees were not envisioned to be armored personnel carriers or urban assault vehicles. They were designed to be 'utility' vehicles and will continue in that role.

The HMMWV is too big to be suited to urban warfare and as heavy and expensive as a light armored vehicle. A slightly bigger heavier vehicle as well armored as the presidential limo and a less expensive M38A1 size are needed and the HMMWV should be slowly phased out. The little guy should have a purpose built multifuel engine and the big guy should probably be turbine, like the Abrams tank.
