NEED Carb suggestions for my 86 CJ7

Hey Group, My Carter BBD finally went belly up on me. Only took 7 years from it's last tune up. I'm not lying! Ready for something new on my stock 108,000 mile 258 straight six. This CJ is my daily driver. The jeep is stock with the T-999 auto tranny and 2.73 gears. Running 30" BFG all terrains.



What's the latest on upgrading carbs for this motor? I live in Ohio and the vehicle isn't inspected so I'm open for any and all suggestions. Not looking to spend $500+ dollars so no fuel injections or motor swaps.



Weber? Holly? Rochester?

LOL!

Man what ever happened to folks doing proper tune ups? The carb is supposed to get a kit every time you change the spark plugs. A kit costs $20.00 and is really easy to put in.

But if you really want to go and spend 4 or 5 hundred dollars, folks use a 36/38 Weber I think it is.

I installed a Weber K551 kit on my '76 and can highly recommend it. Friends around here here with 232 & 258 CJs have almost all done this conversion and are very pleased with it. It bolts right up and is very easy to set up. Check out the Redline Weber website for details.

I forgot, another alternative if you have the bucks and the inclination is to toss the carb completely and in stall either a Howell or Mopar fuel injection conversion kit. Driveability problems are over, but both are big bucks.
