NV3550 problem

Hi All, has anyone heard of a synch. problem with the NV3550? I thought I was having issues with the throwout bearing making noise, but after replacing it the same noise occurs. It usually happens while the clutch is depressed and I am switching for first to second or second to third gear. I figured it was the throwout bearing making the noise, but a mechanic has told me it is the synchros making the noise. This is the Advanced adapters conversion that replaced the BA-10 in an 89 YJ. The built date on the Transmission is 09-2002. Anyone have any noise from their NV3550?

Thanks a bunch for any and all replies!

Don

If it sounds like someone dumped a bunch of marbles in your tranny, then yes, it seems to be rather normal. Does it make a similar noise which in neutral with the clutch pedal off the floor?

The noise is standard from the factory as well. Be sure you are using the correct fluid, though, the 3550 doesn't take regular 80w90 gear oil.

I'd be surprised to hear of one that doesn't!

Fluid is only available from the dealer, something like $18/quart at a Chrysler dealer. It's cheaper at a GM dealer, ask for the Syncromesh manual transmission fluid for the 3/4-1-ton manual tranny.

Matt:

It wasn't muich more than regular gear oil, but I've lost the receipt. It was right on the shelf with the regular stuff. Here's the link:

Course, I was late for work this morning because my GD NV3500 transmission failed me! I have a problem with the shift mechanism that was previously fixed but now has returned. It's like shifting through jello. That'll teach me to open my big mouth!
