Top Options for an Unlimited

Jun 02, 2005 7 Replies

with all this talk about removing windows and tops and all i'm getting itchy.

2004 unlimited. i want to totally remove the soft top. plenty of storage space, so that's no problem.

then, i want a bikini top i can easily take off for full exposure. (i think i just spiked my blood pressure!!)

then i want a tonneau (sp??) cover for the rear area, from which the seat will have been removed.

finally, i want the piece that goes behind the front seats to close up the passenger compartment. i don't necessarily need something totally water proof, but i would rather not sit in a wet seat if at all possible.

the key is i want things i can take off easily but put back on quickly under an overpass if necessary.

i'm not going to say money is no object, but i'm only going to do this once and i want to do it right the first time.

so, what brand/source is my best bet?? best top seems to be the most prominent, but i'm willing to consider anything. being close to the chesapeake bay, maybe i should even talk to a marine upholsterer about something custom made.

anybody got any ideas??

thanks,

Marty, Marty, Marty - you have got the bug bad! :-) Just Empty Every Pocket

Hi Martin,

I went with everything you mentioned - as far as saying the top is off for the summer, yea!! Well, rain happens. Kids want the back seat open, grand kids are now Jeep crazy.

So I went ahead a few years ago and purchased a Window Roll. So now I have my stock top only and ride with it down or up, windowless, and just have the Window Roll to hold the windows for that overpass when it rains.

If you are determined to do this go with Bestop.

I think something else is spiking ...

BesTop is the best choice for all of the parts you are looking for. The tonneau cover will be the most difficult because it is a different size than the other TJs, and your Unlimited is a relatively new model and this part might not have caught up yet. The part that goes behind the seats is called a Windjammer.

The marine upholstery guys might be the place to get your tonneau cover if BesTop doesn't make one yet.

Bestop already makes the tonneau, they sell it at quadratec, and probably others.

Well then, that problem is solved.

I know that I've seen Jeep/Mopar had a half top that had it all together, including a zip out mesh window, set up for 4 seasons. Reminescent of the Scrambler. I know I saw it at camp jeep in 04 and in a accessory catalog at the dealership.

offers it for $795 Do a google for Jeep LWB half top
