What was the last year jeep had the 4.2L?

What year did Chrysler replace the 4.2L with the 4.0L?

What year did the 4.0L become HO?

Thanks,

bill

I believe the 4.2 died out in 91. :-(

I also think the 4.0 HO came in that year too.

Cherokees had the basic 4.0 until then when Chrysler changed the computer management system and the heads and/or the exhaust.

My books all say 91/92 is the big change year.

I think the Cherokee / Comanche was the first to go to the 4.0 in 1987 to replace the V6 and then 4.0 HO came out in 1991. The Cherokee had various configurations over the years but never the 4.2: L4 2.5 L4 2.1(Diesel)

2.8 V6 L6 4.0

The Wrangler had the 4.2 until 1990 and the 4.0 ever since.

Don't forget about the Full Size Jeeps! Some of them, Cherokees included, could have had the 4.2 engines! ;-) later, dave

You're right , I forgot about the FSJ's... the made like 7 or 8 of them in the last year. Sad end to the dinosaur era.
