Why Jeeps suck.

I didn't get the ATV flipping, my digital camera was loading the first shot when he went over and I dropped it and ran to see if he was ok.

Cracked the bikes body shell up bad, but not the driver.

I also posted the one of the tire getting blown off the rim, someone got it pretty good.

Naw it was a really good April Fools joke that suckered a lot of folks for two or three weeks.

It was pretty hilarious.

hi mike, while not minimizing your statements about the flipping, both quads pictured appear to be honda 400 ex (2wd sport quads). the thing about a 400 ex is that you can be riding on totally flat ground and hit the throttle hard and flip backwards. literally :-) the 400ex has a _very_ light front end and when combined with a torquey engine you can pull the front off the ground in nearly any gear just by hitting the throttle. i used to ride with a group that included 3 or 4 of the 400 ex's. i stopped riding with them because they combine to much alcohol with their high speed antics and i didnt want to see anybody get hurt or killed (just a matter of time).

I didn't know they even made 2 WD ATV's!

There was one bigger one that I didn't get a good photo of. It was a much 'heavier' looking unit and had no problem walking up that wall.

The one that flipped was a pretty flimsy and light front end one.

What really is funny is the fact that there is nothing UTILITY about a SUV unless it's an Excursion or Suburban. Tell me, what makes a JEEP a utility vehicle? Yeah, toss a cooler that can hold 6 cans of pop and maybe if your lucky, a bag of chips. Sport, yes, utility, go look it up. I always have to laugh when I see a wrangler with a tow bar on the back. I wonder just what it can tow. Maybe a bike rack? The next gen of jeeps will based off the Liberty's design so don't write it off yet.

Beg to differ. I've read how well they perform. I'v yet to read one article where the Liberty is put down to the bottom of the list. I have read where the GC with it's top of the line 4wd system will go in conditions that stops other jeeps cold. But since your pitting the wrangler against the world, the jeep is a little kia up against the Unimog.

^^^^^ Was there pun intended here? You ether made a grammar mistake or a typo, but you did it by spelling error instead of era. Almost like it was what you meant to say, but I'd bet not.

How do you think the Jeep survived all these years? How many companies picked up the Jeep line along the way? Do you think that they all did it because they wanted a third wheel? Hell no, they did it because the Jeep is a good, no, the best all time 4x4 vehicle. Do you think that companies in countries with lesser emissions laws still make and sell and drive old Willys flat fender models because they like spending the little bit of money they have on a vehicle that sucks?

Why not get that 40's era work horse Jeep? There are plenty that are readily available in very good condition, and for less than the price of a new Sport Utility, you can get an aftermarket body, frame, and a turn- key crate motor to put in it. 4.3 V6s are nice in flattys, 4.0s if your a Ford guy, 4.0s for AMC. Ii just cannot start my Monday off with a thread about 'Why Jeeps Suck.' Why do they suck? Because of who is driving them, that's why.

I'll put the quality of my '98 XJ up against a Rav or CRV any day, any time. Since purchased new, I've spent less than $40 on non maintenance repairs. Outstanding quality considering the amount of rigorous 4-wheeling it's subjected to. Could you perhaps be spending too much time reading that biased pro-Japanese rag "Consumer Reports"?

Why do you think Daimler Chrysler offers a 7/70 limited powertrain warranty on their vehicles at no extra cost? Maybe because they're so confident about the quality of their vehicles? Roadside Assistance is not a response to poor quality as you infer. It's a value-added service and just one more reason to buy a Jeep.

CRV and Rav's are car-based vehicles. Go ahead and follow me up the Sykes Ridge 4WD trail in one of these 'girly man SUV's'. I've got a strong tow strap and plenty of power to pull it out.

So the resale value/rate of depreciation is more favorable with a Toyota or Honda. That's of little concern for most Jeep owners. I would not consider ever selling my XJ. I fully agree with the point that the Rav or CRV will have a better resale value "within a few months" after purchase. If I ever made the big mistake of buying one of these vehicles, I'd sure as h*ll be wanting to trade out of it ASAP!

Seriously? Well, I tow a trailer i had custom made for the TJ (same wheelbase, lots of clearance, etc). Going to elk camp last year I had... lessee... a crapload of ash firewood, 2 large full coolers, tons of camping and hunting gear, etc.

You are probably coming at this from a large trailer or boat perspective. The TJ is not the rig to tow that stuff. 1500 lbs is a LOT of gear and the TJ tows that fine.
