One thing I noticed looking at these. They all seem to use 100' of cable. My
8274 Warn has 150' and sometimes that wasn't quite enough. Once it took all that plus two tow-chains to reach a landcruiser that was WAY out in some soft stuff. It wasn't a hard pull, just a LONG reach.Mike might know this.... The Canadian military in Afgh and Iraq are using some weird named thing that looks like a jeep.
I swear it's got the protection of a moped! I mean...there's light armor....then there's the cardboard that this thing has. Looks like they'll become surplus soon enough....interesting trail vehicle....and probably falls in to your "real jeep" category! ;)
Smokey and the bandit.....mm mmmm.....
Or even Sally Field :-)

i have to respectfully disagree. i dropped my old snorkeled '82 toyota 4x4 in a hole that ended up being a lot deeper than i thought. the lights would run with the battery under water, but the starter wouldnt turn the truck engine over. once we pulled it out it cranked and ran fine.
theyre using 100' of 3/8" cable. 150' spool of 3/8 cable would be huge. if you need more reach, bring a chain.
would it count if i do it? ;-)
I liked Smokey and the Bandit - one of my favourite films when I was a kid.
wouldn't turn..?! is that to do with a serpentine belt going to the rad fan too? Blades that big need lots o'power to turn in water....
No, when it comes to Real Jeeps and their PTO's, it only takes ONE....(wonder who that might be???)
Which I often carry.(Even if you don't need it, it makes it less strain on the winch) Also a couple of twenty foot tow chains, a six foot chain, some firehose, a come-along(sometimes two), a hand winch(easier than a come-along, but heavier) and, of course, a Hi-Lift.
I also carry a heavy nylon strap and also (now) a couple 50' sections of cable with hooks on each end.
Don't always carry all of it. It just depends on where I'm headed.
And let's don't forget a shovel or two, an axe, a tire gauge and an air pump.
