110 Cappings

The Cappings on the rear body of my 110 Stationwagon (1991) have got a severe attack of tinworm.

Various internet browses on the usual sites and phone calls to local suppliers have clouded the issue somewhat. Nobody seems to supply them primed, only galv but there is also confusion over one piece or two piece (mine are both one-piece).

Finally, why is there such a price difference between left and right?

I'm looking to source a pair, preferably primed, if not then Galvanised. Anyone care to shed some light?

I bought a pair from Cradock's six month ago, cost me £10 from their second-hand department. Ben

Swanning about uttered summat worrerz funny about:

I seem to recall they were not galved for a short time around 1990 hence the rot.. then LR saw sense for once and started to galv them again.

My dear departed '85 had galvanised, my 'new' '92 seems to have the tinworm variety. But the galvanised ones seemed only to be what I always thought was called spray galvanised as opposed to proper hot-dip galvanised, so they were starting to rust.

has all the bits. In *theory*, pre-EA314075 (Approx 1988) 2-piece cappings should be galavanised, as should the 1-piece ones up to WA138479 (i.e. pre Td5). However, the reality is that they turn up galavanised or not on a seemingly random basis - quite often a pair will be one galv and one primed! It's quite possible thar LR (or rather Catapillar Parts) have got themselves confused since most, if not all, cappings post 1989 fitted to new vehicles were not galvanised - something that has caused much wailing and gnashing of teeth at the time. Personaly I'd be pleased if they were galv - a bit more awkward to paint, but much longer lasting.

I bought a galv RHS one recently from Christian Autos in Bristol (Kingswood), and Pete had to ferret about in the back to find one that was galv and not just black primed. It wasn't expensive, but I can't remember exactly how much.
