4 wheeler sankey?

OK, this is probably a stupid idea, and I'm sure you'll all tell me why, but has anyone ever thought of making a big 4 wheeler sankey trailer by welding two normal ones together? My idea is you would cut one just beind the back spring hanger, the other in front of the front one, and join them together. Given the seperate chassis/body, and the fact that everything is straight lines, it shouldn't be too technically difficult. You would end up with a decent sized trailer you could put at least a ton into, probably more. It would also only cost about 300 quid plus some effort.

The only potential issue I can think of it that once it's a 4 wheeler you have to have your NATO hitch at just the right level for the trailer, as you can't get away with having it a bit off level.

Hmmmmmm.

Hmmm... What would it weigh?

What about load sharing between the axles - you'll need to fit a rocker arm between the leading and trailing springs.

I've seen a few 4-wheeler trailers built on this general idea, usually from scratch, and it tends to put the "axle" lines too far apart to steer well.

suggests a normal sankey is 320kg, so you would be looking at the wrong side of 500kg, which isn't ideal I guess.

Paul, I've been meaning to draw your attention toward the 101 for some while. Now seems an appropriate time to actually suggest you give thought toward adding one to your parking space...

You could look at joining two Rapier trailers together then :-)

Ok Ok ...how about using outriggers on a modified chassis from a lwb on on axle then chassis mounted spring mounts on the other...that way they can be nice and snug...but the spring pads will need relicating on one axle to mate with the new spring location.... after then you could put a proper engine in it ;-)

Mother twisted the electrons to say:

I remember (several years ago now) seeing one of the 101 owners in York completely blocking one side of a petrol station with his 101 and Blue Steel missile trailer ...
