Axle suffix and track rods for series3

Could a clever series3 owner please give me some info on axle suffixes and track rods. I need a new track rod for my 1973 diesel s3 swb, I've already got a new set of ball joints to go into the ends. Craddocks have three contenders on their website;

Part Number : RTC1810 TRACK ROD ASSEMBLY SERIES 3

Part Number : 526994 TRACK ROD ONLY 43 1/8 1962 UP TO AXLE SUFFIX E SERIES 3

Part Number : NRC132 TRACK ROD SERIES 3 SUFFIX E ONWARDS

I've no idea what the axel suffix is on my S3, and our friendly mechanic cant find it either. Which option would people recommend? David

I seem to recall that two differences were that some track rod ends are threaded all the way along....whilst others aren't so check are the origionals threaded or is there an iunthreaded bit which would prevent the track rod ends being set correctly.

As for the third type ...haven't a clue.

tried looking on Paddock's site, for comparison purposes? I doubt they give dates, as such things as axles aren't changed on any set date. Best bet would be to examine the existing one, see what threads it has (if it's threaded all the way to the end or has a plain bit, as someone else mentioned) and measure the length. Then phone 'em and talk to them about it.

also, you need to find the axle number. On the 110 this is stamped in the casing, roughly in the middle. Haynes is typically unhelpful, making no mention of where the axle number is.

That'll be the complete assembly - track rod and track rod ends, clamps etc...

That's the only one I can find listed for a Series III

That's more difficult but ISTR that late Series 3's had a steering damper fitted, maybe this is the one with a damper attachment ?

Personally I'd phone them and ask if they know what the difference is :-)

cheers

Thanks for your help. I did ring Craddocks in the end, and they told me that my 1973 SIII needed the pre-suffixE track rod. Hopefully Paddocks sent me the correct track rod ends and ball joints to match them, don't remember any similar mentions of suffix when I ordered those. Can you believe someone welded the old track rod on at one end!? I had no idea when I inocently ordered a new set of ball joint/ends. Fingers crossed it all fits together. David
