Bouncey ride

I've had Defender 90s for quite a few years (NA, 200tdi & 300tdi), usually on or converted to BFG 225/75 tyres. They all seemed to ride about the same, even when I converted the last one to Polybushes (the Blue ones).

I've just been lucky enough to get a 2003 TD5 which has only done 8,800 miles. My problem is that it seems a very bouncy ride compared to all the others. The mileage is genuine and there is nothing worn in the suspension or steering, which leads me to suspect that it's because it's still on the original tyres. These are 235/85 General Grabber TRs.

I've never driven a 90 on 235/85s before - is this bouncy ride a characteristic of the tyre size - or the tyre make ?

Any views ? Joskin

Seems unlikely to be either, if you ask me. If anything tyre related then pressure.

Unlikely. I'd be removing and checking the shocks - the symptoms sound remarkably like they are not doing the job.

I have a very similar problem on a 110 with BFG tires (750x16?). It's all fine except when I drive fast (50mph) and go over short bumps (e.g. manhole covers) when the wheels do bounce a lot. I was indeed thinking shocks. How can I test them (apart from going to a test place)?

TIA,

Fred
