Bye bye Disco..what have I done?!

Disco sold this morning...

...bought a Passat Tdi estate this afternoon. Yes it is a bit boring, yes it is a bit black and dull inside, but on the other hand it does a combined 53mpg and with the "PD" engine it goes like stink - plus it will probably last forever! Couldn't believe the condition when I saw it - the guy has even covered the original VW mats with another set of mats to keep them as new! You could put it in a showroom and sell it as new.

Don't know what is going to be more strange, getting used to driving LHD, or getting used to driving 'down low'! Between the Disco/RR before that, and the van, I haven't driven a 'normal' car regularly for years.

You should try going from a car to a unit...!

Just done the same thing, from a D2 to a Mondeo estate after 8 years of driving nothing but green oval vehicles. It's as comfy as the Disco, but without that "presence" that a 4x4 has. Driving along with your arse on the floor (or so it feels) is a bit strange, but it's twice as quick and seems to be using almost exactly half the diesel that the D2 drank for the same journeys at similar speeds. It is actually much better at towing the caravan. Given that I don't need to drag a trailer across muddy fields these days, I think it was the right decision (save the planet, yeah, yeah), but I still have a Series 2 on the drive, even if it's long term sick at the moment.
