"Check Engine" lit on a Disco...

GRRRRRR

filled up with fuel, and as I pulled off the forecourt, the Disco didn't feel right. Got 150yds, and the revs were going from 500 to 2000 and back again at about .5Hz.

Couldn't pull over there, so got another few hundred yards, and the "Check Engine" light came on.

Stopped, restarted, and all appears ok, but that damned light is still on

Is it a "dealer" job to get it disabled? or can the homebrew mechanic jury rig it?

Si (still not properly back to work after 8 weeks and getting really fed up with being told "you cant do that" by SWMBO)

Seeing as it did it just after you'd fuelled up, try removing the fuel cap, check the seal is ok and refit it ensuring it goes all the way down and also ensure the cover flap closes fully also. Tank vacuum leak-rate is monitored by the ecu for emissions reasons and will give the light if all is not ok. Common as muck situation on BMW's, btw, and guess where the motronic ecu came from...... Thanks Badger,

should the light go out on its own if all is well again? Its a 94 3.9 Disco

Not 100% certain, but if it doesn't, try unplugging the ecu (with the ignition off, obviously!) and waiting a few minutes then reconnect and see. Don't just disconnect the battery as that may cause alarm/immobiliser issues. Badger.

My plan B is to swap the ECU from the Charities 3.9 to see if that clears it

might do that anyways ;-)

Plan A disconnect ECU count to 50 and reconnect worked a treat.
