Heavy Duty engine mounts for V8 engines?

People Hi,

A fellow member of the LR Club of Greece who races his Defender has been having problem with the rubber engine mounts of his 3.5 carburated engine. They get destroyed on every race.

So we are wondering whether anyone knows of a heavy duty alternative engine mounts for the V8 engine.

Thanks in advance for your kind input and suggestions.

Take care Pantelis

P.S. Welding the engine to the chassis is excluded (kidding)

I am not sure if this will help but in South Africa they fitted LR's with an ADE 236 diesel engine (Basically a perkins 3.8ltr 4 cylinder). The standard petrol alternative SerIII S R6 had round engine mounts which I believe are the same as the V8.

The ADE version had square rubbers, the compound of which seems a lot tougher. remember the ADE is a low revving, heavy vibrating hunk of metal.

I used these mounts on My R6 and I still use them now after having converted to a Nissan LD28 diesel. SO far no problems, but then I am not racing. (Although I have used the LR to pull a few rally cars out of pretty tight spots.

In SA I can get these mounts for about R14each which is about UKP1.

Regards

Stephen

I could do with some of them. one of mine, I notice, is detached, which is yet another thing to fix. I have a few spare one knocking around though.

I had contemplated a different system, using a long bolt washers and rubber blocks:

_______ | | | --------------bolt head |¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯| --------heavy steel washer |¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯| --------rubber block |_____________________| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ --engine plate ¯¯¯¯|¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯|¯¯¯¯¯¯ | | -------rubber block | | _____|_____________________|______ __________________________________ --chassis plate |¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯| |_____________________| -------rubber block |_________________| ---------heavy steel washer | | | |___|___| --------------nut | | |___|

This would stop the engine being able to detach itself form the mounting (without shearing the bolt, of course). IME they almost always fail due to the bonding between the end plate and the rubber coming loose.

but naturally enough, I've never actually gotten around to trying it.

Standard series LR diesel engine mounts are square (and harder than the round petrol ones), could they just be these?

The usual fix in Australia is to fit Jaguar V12 engine mounts - the trouble is I'm not sure which model jag
